Arequipa – Take 1

Fay 139 – Too misty for Misti

After a maintenance morning on the internet, we set off to meet up with Peter and Jacqui the Canadians for lunch and to make our plans for a trip to Colca Canyon.  Deciding it was way too expensive to hire a car, even between the four of us, to drive out to the Canyon we made plans to catch public transport and do some trekking instead.  With plans to be on the 6am bus, we spent the rest of the afternoon taking a few snaps around town, had a nice Italian pasta dinner and were in bed nice and early.

The view from the Plaza de Armas in the centre of town.  5,822m high El Misti is imposing in the background, although unable to be caught by my camera in the “mistiness”.

The arches of the municipal building in the central plaza.  I have become a fan of Spanish Colonial architecture on this trip, especially the whitewashed buildings and black wrought iron gates, balconies and balustrades and secret courtyards in almost all buildings.

The ornate stonework out the front of Iglesia de la Compañía.
